The Pebble Is the Focus

This is one of my favorite photos of myself!

I am holding a pebble. The pebble is in sharp focus. I am in the background, slightly out of focus.

That is exactly how I think it should be.

I believe that the focus should not be on us. The focus should be on the choices we make.

Every choice is a pebble. Some are big and create large ripples. Some are small and create quiet ripples that travel farther than we may ever see. Some choices lift people up. Others can leave a mark we never intended.

But all of them matter.

Over time, we become the sum of the pebbles we drop: the promises we keep, the grace we extend, the courage we show, the way we respond when someone needs us, and the decisions we make when nobody is watching.

For me, this is what Ripples of Impact means. It is not one grand act. It is a lifetime of values driven choices, repeated often enough to shape people, teams, communities, and eventually our legacy.

That is why I try to pause before an important decision and ask: What ripple will this create?

Will it build trust? Will it give someone confidence? Will it leave the next person or the next generation better off?

We will all drop pebbles. The opportunity is to choose them with care.

Because the ripples are never just about us. They are about the impact we leave behind, often long after we are gone.
